Victoria Joins Pipeline Opposition Over Environmental Concerns

The city of Victoria has formally joined the opposition to a proposed West Coast oil pipeline that would transport Alberta crude to the B.C. coast.

The pipeline, which is estimated to stretch approximately 1,250 kilometres and have a capacity of up to one million barrels of oil per day, faces environmental concerns from the city's council.

Councilor Susan Kim spearheaded the motion to make a formal submission to the federal government, which will outline points in opposition to the project's designation as one of national interest.

However, not all councillors were in agreement with the decision. Couns. Chris Coleman and Marg Gardiner opposed submitting, citing concerns about timing and potential impacts on national unity.
