Video of Fire Extinguished Aboard Indian Ship Not Linked to Saudi Tanker Attack
A video has been circulating on social media claiming to show efforts to extinguish a fire aboard the Saudi oil tanker Amzan after it was targeted by the Houthis in the northern Red Sea off the coast of Yanbu. However, Misbar's team at Al Araby TV investigated and found that the video is actually old and does not relate to the incident with the Amzan.
The investigation revealed that the video was published by the official Indian Coast Guard account on June 10, 2025, showing footage of Indian Coast Guard vessels helping to extinguish a fire aboard the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503. The fire broke out after explosions occurred inside several containers while the vessel was sailing off the coast of Kerala in southwestern India.
The incident with the MV Wan Hai 503 occurred on June 9, 2025, about 88 nautical miles off the coast of Kerala. The crew issued an emergency alert after an initial explosion occurred inside one of the containers, and the fire later spread to others. As a result, about 40 containers fell into the Arabian Sea, raising concerns that they could drift toward the Kerala coast.
