Vietnam Gold Prices Plummet Amid Global Market Correction
Gold prices in Vietnam experienced an unexpected sharp drop this afternoon on August 25. The sudden reversal was attributed to global market developments, specifically a significant correction in gold prices from around $4,700 per ounce to $4,600 per ounce.
The price of SJC gold bars remained stable at various brands, trading between 147.6 and 150.6 million VND per tael. However, some major gold ring brands saw a decrease in selling prices by 500,000 - 1 million VND/ounce compared to this afternoon.
Ewa Manthey, a commodities strategist at ING, emphasized that the current surge in gold prices is closely linked to increased concerns about the US fiscal situation and demand for safe-haven assets. According to Ms. Manthey, 'During the previous period of sideways movement or correction in gold, demand from central banks remained relatively strong, but investment flows were not truly aligned.'
The market's focus on debt issues, the sustainability of the US fiscal situation, and the risk of currency devaluation has led to a favorable environment for gold. However, ING warns that the upward trend in precious metals is unlikely to follow a straight line due to persistent inflation and the possibility of continued tightening monetary policy by the US Federal Reserve.
