Vietnam Gold Prices Plummet to Start of Year
Gold prices in Vietnam have been trending downward since the beginning of the year. As of September 2nd, 2026, the price of gold bars has dropped significantly compared to January 1st, 2026. According to the data from various gold businesses, including SJC, PNJ, and DOJI, buyers who purchased gold at the start of the year are now facing losses ranging from 7.1 to 7.7 million VND per tael.
For example, if someone invested 152.8 million VND to buy one ounce of gold on January 1st, and they sell it at the current price of 145.7 million VND, they are currently losing money. The same is true for other businesses like Bao Tin Minh Chau (BTMC), Mi Hong, and Phu Quy, where buyers who purchased gold at the beginning of the year are now experiencing negative returns.
The prices of gold bars have decreased by 5.1 million VND to 7.7 million VND per tael since January 1st. The buying price is currently lower than the selling price, with a spread of 3 million VND/ounce. This downward trend in gold prices has resulted in significant losses for buyers who purchased gold at the start of the year.
