Vietnam Mandates E10 Blending in Gasoline Grades
Vietnam has completed its rollout of a mandatory E10 blending requirement across all urban areas for its most popular gasoline grade, marking an important step in building long-term demand for US ethanol imports.
The policy builds on Vietnam's existing E5 RON92 mandate established in 2018 and ensures that by June 2026, 100% of gasoline grades sold in Vietnam will contain ethanol. The move is expected to generate annual ethanol demand of 240 million gallons.
The US Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) played a significant role in advancing fuel ethanol policy in Vietnam, supporting the development and announcement of the mandatory requirement through close collaboration with the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture over the past seven years.
This milestone is crucial for building long-term, scalable demand for US ethanol imports as Vietnamese market demand will continue to outpace domestic supply in the coming years. The Council estimates that US corn ethanol exports to Vietnam since the policy announcement have reached 16.1 million gallons, valued at $32 million.
