Vietnam Seeks Second LNG Supply Contract After Deal with Shell

Petrovietnam Gas is seeking to procure more liquefied natural gas (LNG) as Vietnam builds its LNG industry to meet growing energy demand. The company has sent a request to potential suppliers for a possible tender to supply 250,000-450,000 metric tons of LNG under a five-year contract starting from January 2027 or later.

This would be Vietnam's second term contract after a deal with Shell earlier this year. In January 2026, PV GAS awarded its first term contract to date to Shell for the supply of about 400,000 tons per year for five years.

The deal with Shell was finalised as part of negotiations between Vietnam and the US to reduce Vietnam's large trade surplus with Washington, including via the purchase of LNG from US firms. No term deal with any US firms has been announced yet.
