Vietnam Seeks Second LNG Term Contract After Shell Deal

Petrovietnam Gas, a state-controlled Vietnamese company, is seeking to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) under a five-year contract from potential suppliers. This would be Vietnam's second term contract after a deal with Shell earlier this year.

The request for the supply of 250,000-450,000 metric tons was sent in June to potential suppliers as part of a 'market sounding exercise' for the Thi Vai Terminal. Delivery is expected to start in January 2027 or later.

Vietnam has been building an LNG industry from scratch to meet growing energy demand and reduce its reliance on coal. The country aims to lower its carbon emissions, with two LNG terminals already operational in the south.
