Vietnam Seeks Second LNG Term Contract After Shell Deal

Petrovietnam Gas, a state-controlled company in Vietnam, is seeking to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) under a five-year contract. This would be Vietnam's second term contract after a deal with Shell earlier this year.

The document reviewed by Reuters shows that Petrovietnam Gas sent a request to potential suppliers in June for the supply of 250,000-450,000 metric tons for the Thi Vai Terminal. The delivery is expected to start in January 2027 or later.

This development comes as Vietnam continues to build an LNG industry from scratch to meet growing energy demand. The country aims to reduce its reliance on coal and lower its carbon emissions.
