Vietnam's Gold Market Sees Rings Outpace Bars Amid Wild Fluctuations
The gold market is experiencing wild fluctuations, with prices for gold rings surpassing those of gold bars in Vietnam on September 12, 2026. According to data from PNJ, the buying price for SJC gold bars ranges from 142.4 million VND/ounce to 145.4 million VND/ounce, while the selling price is between 141.9 million VND/ounce and 145.0 million VND/ounce. In contrast, the prices for 99.99% pure gold rings are commonly around 141.9 - 143 million VND/ounce for buying and 144.9 - 146.6 million VND/ounce for selling.
This phenomenon is mainly due to differences in supply and demand as well as the availability of raw gold materials, analysts say. Gold rings have become a popular choice among investors due to their diverse weights, ease of buying and selling, and suitability for small-scale investors. As demand increases while supply remains limited, prices can be pushed higher.
The price of SJC gold bars is heavily influenced by the supply and demand of the gold bar market itself, with the brand and supply being tightly controlled. World gold prices are rising rapidly again, with a 1.62% increase from the previous session on September 7th at $4,390.10 USD/ounce.
TD Securities experts Ryan McKay and Bart Melek noted that while gold prices have lost some of their recent gains, they remain stronger than other precious metals group. They believe that gold prices could face stronger selling pressure if they break through key support levels, specifically at $4,367 per ounce or below $4,300 per ounce.
