Vietnam's Gold Prices Plummet Amid Global Market Adjustments
According to recent data, world gold prices have experienced a slight increase of nearly 1.75% over the past three months. Specifically, on August 22, 2026, gold prices reached $4,602.4 per ounce, up from $4,523.5 per ounce on May 22, 2026.
However, in contrast to this global trend, domestic gold prices have seen a sharp decline of more than 9% over the same period. SJC gold bars and 9999 gold rings at various brands, including Phu Quy, DOJI, and Bao Tin Minh Chau, have all decreased by significant margins.
For instance, SJC gold bar prices at Phu Quy and DOJI were listed at 144.6-147.6 million VND/tael (buying-selling), a decrease of 14.8 million VND/tael from the May 22 price range. This translates to a decline of approximately 9.3% in buying prices and 9.1% in selling prices.
The trend is similar for 9999 gold rings, which have also decreased by more than 9%. The current prices at Phu Quy and DOJI are 144.6-147.6 million VND/tael, down from the May 22 price range of 159.4-162.4 million VND/tael.
The difference between buying and selling prices at various brands ranges from 3-4 million VND/tael, adding to investors' risks in a fluctuating market. The current global trend of adjusting gold prices may continue to exert downward pressure on domestic gold prices.
