Virudhunagar Launches Cooking Oil Production Initiative
The Department of Agriculture in India's Virudhunagar district has launched the National Cooking Oil Mission to boost cooking oil production.
Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra announced plans to establish groundnut and sunflower clusters with demonstration plots across six blocks: Kariyapatti, M. Reddiyapatti, Narikudi, Watrap, Virudhunagar, and Aruppukottai.
The groundnut cluster will span 1,000 hectares of farmland, where farmers will be introduced to new varieties within seven years. Implementing new technologies for higher yields is also part of the plan.
A value-addition cluster for sunflower production will be set up on 300 hectares in Virudhunagar, Aruppukottai, and M. Reddiyapatti blocks.
