Wall Street and Retail Investors Unanimously Predict Gold Price Surge
Gold prices have received an overwhelmingly bullish sentiment from both Wall Street analysts and retail investors in the latest Kitco News gold survey. A total of 19 Wall Street analysts participated, with 16 expecting gold prices to rise, accounting for 84%, while only 2 held bearish views, roughly 11%. One analyst remained neutral on gold's short-term outlook.
Retail investor sentiment is also optimistic, creating a relatively rare consensus between institutions and retail participants. In past surveys, Wall Street and Main Street often diverged in their views.
The factors supporting gold's strength are not singular. Geopolitical risks have spread into the energy infrastructure sector, potentially supporting gold through supply chain and inflation expectation channels. The Federal Reserve's rate-hike option has not truly been removed from the table, with some institutions cautioning that policymakers could still reconsider tightening if inflation data proves sticky or energy prices climb again due to geopolitical risks.
Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and JPMorgan all emphasize in their latest reports that gold's allocation value over the medium-to-long term should not be overlooked. The London Bullion Market Association's year-end gold price forecasts show significant divergence, reflecting the highly complex macro environment.
