Wall Street Stocks Continue to Soar Amid Strong Earnings Reports
Stocks on Wall Street added to their records set yesterday as companies continue to report strong earnings results. The S&P 500 rose 0.5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 487 points, or 0.9%, by 9:53 a.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite also increased, rising 0.3%.
The market's surge is attributed to companies beating profit expectations and reporting overall gains. This week has been strong for the market, with every major index experiencing sharp gains.
Disney's latest quarterly report showed a $1 billion box office haul from 'Toy Story 5' and higher theme park revenue, causing its stock to rise 3.2%. Booking Holdings also reported growth, jumping 5.5% after strong travel demand drove profit and revenue increases in its most recent quarter.
However, uncertainty about the direction of the US war with Iran continues to affect energy markets, despite President Donald Trump's statement that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could come as early as Wednesday. Brent crude oil prices rose 0.1% to $79.41 a barrel.
