Wall Street Stocks Plateau as Oil Prices Plummet Amid US-Iran Tensions
Stocks on Wall Street closed in a mixed bag Monday as the market continued to navigate the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. Despite the uncertainty, oil prices took a significant hit with crude oil prices dropping 6%.
The S&P 500 was able to eke out a gain of less than 0.1%, following two consecutive weekly losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.5%, while the Nasdaq composite fell 0.2% for its fourth straight loss.
The market's mixed performance is likely due in part to the recent developments between the US and Iran, as well as the ongoing efforts to restart negotiations to end the war. With tensions cooling somewhat, investors may be cautiously optimistic about a potential resolution, but are not yet willing to commit fully to buying.
