Wall Street Wavers as Oil Prices Fall Amid Middle East Tensions
Stocks wavered on Wall Street as investors digested the latest developments in the Middle East, which threaten to slow global oil production. Despite heavy fighting in the region, the S&P 500 managed a 0.1% gain on Friday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.5%. However, the Nasdaq composite fell 0.6%, bringing all three major indexes to lower weekly closes.
Brent crude oil prices dropped nearly 4% to settle at $96.78 a barrel after reaching a high of $102 just a day earlier. This marks the first decline in oil prices in over a week, which had been fueled by tensions in the Middle East.
The bond market also saw some movement, with Treasury yields moving lower on Friday. Meanwhile, European markets were in positive territory, while Asian markets closed lower for the week.
