West Asia Tensions Drive Oil Prices Towards $100
Rising tensions in West Asia are driving oil prices towards $100 a barrel, according to Peter McGuire, CEO of Trading.com. Oil prices had been trading near $70 just a few months ago but have since surged due to uncertainty over the roles of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and President Donald Trump in the region.
McGuire expects escalation on both sides, which he believes will push oil prices towards $100. He also predicts that the US dollar index will reach 100 as a result of the situation unfolding. Crude oil prices have already broken past the $90 mark, while WTI crude touched $97 before settling back to around $95.60.
When asked about the potential duration of the standoff, McGuire said it could drag on for years, citing the Ukraine-Russia situation as a test case. He expressed hope that the conflict would be resolved by the end of the year but acknowledged that this was uncertain.
