The World Gold Council has unveiled a comprehensive plan to revamp India's gold sector over the next two decades. Dubbed 'Swarnim Udaan', this 21-year roadmap aims to reduce India's reliance on gold imports by increasing local mining and encouraging recycling and exports.

According to the plan, India should meet 10-20% of its gold demand from domestic mines, making it less dependent on imports. The WGC also wants to channel household gold for productive use through financialization and enhance demand for retail gold jewelry among Gen Z.

The Swarnim Udaan initiative is aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and seeks to position India as a global leader in gold jewelry production.
