Wheat Exports Plunge Amid Ongoing Port Attacks
Ukraine and Russia's wheat exports have seen a significant decline in August 2026 due to ongoing attacks on Ukraine's Odesa, Black Sea, and Danube ports by the Russian Federation.
The pace of wheat exports from both countries decreased amid these port attacks, with traders attempting to organize grain supplies via land routes. Despite these efforts, export volumes dropped considerably.
In Ukraine, only 340 thousand tons of wheat were exported between August 1 and 21, a 3.7 times lower figure than in the same period last year. For the entire marketing year 2026/2027, Ukraine's total wheat exports stand at 1.41 million tons, representing a 44% decrease from the previous season.
Russia managed to export 1 million tons of wheat in the first 20 days of August, which is 2.6 times less than last year. Shipments are currently being made through only 8 ports, whereas a year ago there were 29.
