Wheat Futures Soar Amid Black Sea Conflict Uncertainty
Wheat futures in the United States shot up on Friday as concerns about grain movement from the Black Sea region intensified due to the escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Russia rejected a Ukrainian ceasefire proposal, while Ukraine's military struck a Russian gas condensate processing complex. Although no damage was reported at grain facilities, these developments were enough to send wheat markets soaring.
Corn futures also rose, benefiting from the rally in wheat as traders continued to analyze the latest supply and demand estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released earlier in the week.
