Wheat Lanes Lead in Price Spreads as Corn and Soybeans Struggle
The latest data from the USDA's AgTransport dataset for the week ended September 4, 2026, shows that wheat lanes are leading in terms of price spreads. The top-ranked spread is for Hard Red Winter Wheat moving out of Montana to the Gulf - Texas, with a difference of $2.96 between origin and destination bids.
Hard Red Spring Wheat from Montana to Gulf - Louisiana also showed a significant spread of $2.7, while other wheat lanes had spreads ranging from $2.55 to $1.82. Soft Red Winter Wheat from Illinois to Gulf - Louisiana matched the spread on Soybeans from North Dakota and the Southeast to Gulf - Louisiana at $1.70.
On the other hand, corn lanes serving the Atlantic Coast and Great Lakes - Toledo destinations showed thin or negative spreads. Corn from Minnesota to Gulf - Louisiana had a spread of $1.69, while Corn from Indiana to Atlantic Coast recorded a flat spread of zero.
