Wheat Market Sees Mixed Trading Amid Shipment Increase
The wheat market is experiencing mixed trading on Monday, with winter wheats posting gains and spring wheat declining. The Chicago Soft Red Winter (SRW) contracts are up 2 to 3 cents for the day, while Kansas City Hard Red Winter (HRW) futures are 1 to 3 cents higher at midday.
The weekly Export Inspections report showed a 24.36% increase in wheat shipments from the previous week, with 421,277 metric tons shipped worldwide. Japan was the largest recipient of these shipments, receiving 81,506 metric tons, followed by Mexico and the Philippines.
The marketing year's total shipments now stand at 3.332 million metric tons (122.4 million bushels), which is 24.56% lower than the same period last year. The Agricultural Marketing Service will release updated production data for wheat on Wednesday via the monthly Crop Production report, with analysts surveyed by Reuters expecting a reduction of 11 million bushels from July's numbers.
