Wheat Prices Slump as Black Sea Exports Remain Disrupted
Wheat futures are expected to open lower on Wednesday at the Chicago Board of Trade after reaching a multi-year high. The market has rallied due to escalating attacks that have interrupted Russian and Ukrainian grain exports from the Black Sea region.
The disruption in exports, particularly from Ukraine, has had a significant impact with Ukrainian grain exports declining by about 58% in August compared to a year earlier, according to its agriculture ministry.
Russia's foreign minister stated that there are no grounds to resume a deal allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea. Meanwhile, Russia announced it would be suspending export duties on grain until the end of 2026.
