Wheat Prices Soar as Ukraine War Diplomacy Fails
The wheat market saw significant gains on Tuesday as hopes for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian war waned. The conflict has disrupted shipments from the Black Sea region, leading buyers to seek alternative suppliers.
Chicago wheat futures rose by 3% to $7.56-1/2 per bushel, while CBOT corn increased by 0.7% to $5.40-1/4 per bushel. Soybeans also gained 0.2%, reaching $13.12 per bushel.
The US peace ambassadors' visit to Russia over the weekend did not yield a breakthrough in ending the war, and exports from the Black Sea region remain halted due to tit-for-tat attacks on ports and ships.
