Wheat Prices Surge as Black Sea Conflict Intensifies
Wheat prices are nearing their highest level in over three years due to renewed hostilities in the Black Sea region. The conflict has heightened concerns over grain supplies, causing wheat to rise towards $7.65 per bushel.
Turkey has prepared a plan to facilitate the safe movement of grain through the Black Sea and is in contact with both Russia and Ukraine.
However, Moscow rejected a proposed moratorium on attacks in the area, arguing that it would not contribute to a peaceful resolution. Instead, Russian strikes have damaged port facilities and a border crossing with Romania in the Odesa region.
The renewed hostilities have increased uncertainty around exports from both countries, which are major exporters accounting for over a quarter of global wheat shipments.
