The global wheat market is experiencing a surge in prices due to a combination of factors. According to the CME Group Agriculture report, year-to-date performance for grains and oilseeds has been appreciating, with rice up by 25% and wheat up by 14%. The USDA also reported that US total wheat production is forecast to fall to 41.81 million tons, driven by a reduction in sown area and yield.

The recent July WASDE report triggered panic buying across commodity desks, and Russia's reinstatement of its wheat export tax has further contributed to the price increase. Maritime drone strikes have also choked vital Black Sea transit routes, adding to the supply chain disruptions.
