Winter Prices Surge Despite Comfortable Midwest Gas Storage Levels

The natural gas storage situation in the Midwest appears to be comfortable, but winter prices are telling a different story. According to NGI's Entropic Analytics Product Suite, pipeline flow data shows that natural gas pipelines are flowing at a rate of around 10 Bcf/d, which is below the five-year average.

However, despite this, winter prices have been increasing, with the Henry Hub price reaching $3.14/MMBtu in late January. This has led to concerns about potential supply disruptions and increased costs for consumers.

NGI's Bidweek Product Suite provides first-of-month natural gas pricing, data, and market insights, which may help explain why winter prices are deviating from expectations. The suite includes news, a datafeed, historical data, and bidweek alerts that can provide valuable information for industry professionals.
