Woodfibre LNG Receives Key Liquefaction Module
The Woodfibre LNG facility in Squamish, Canada has received its largest and heaviest module yet. Weighing 10,847 metric tonnes, the liquefaction module is a crucial component of the facility's operations.
This module, which measures roughly the size of a football field, will be used to cool natural gas to -162°C, compressing it into a liquid that can be safely shipped overseas. The liquefaction module is driven by Siemens electric-drive (E-drive) motors, which use renewable power from BC Hydro's grid to minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Luke Schauerte, CEO of Woodfibre LNG, this module represents the 'beating heart' of the facility and a key part of its commitment to net-zero operations. The company claims that its electric-drive technology is more efficient and requires less maintenance than traditional gas turbines.
