Woodside's Half-Year Profit Jumps 7% on Higher Oil Prices
Woodside Energy's half-year profit rose by 7% due to higher oil prices. The Australian producer reported an underlying net profit of $1.33 billion for the six months ended June 30th, up from $1.25 billion last year. This increase is attributed to a rise in average realized price to $74 per barrel of oil equivalent (boe) from $61.7.
The company also nudged up its interim dividend to 57 cents a share from 53 cents. This move reflects the 'operating leverage' that oil and gas firms often exhibit, where extra revenue from higher prices tends to flow through to cash generation more quickly than costs rise.
However, with crude easing after mid-June, investors will be watching whether Woodside can maintain realized pricing near $74 per boe. If this level proves temporary, future dividend increases are likely to slow.
