Worker dies in fatal gas plant incident in northeastern BC
A worker has died in an incident at Tourmaline Oil's Aitken gas plant in northeast British Columbia. The company says the accident occurred on August 27 near its Aitken Creek gas plant, more than 120 kilometers northwest of Fort St. John.
Tourmaline claims the worker was a contractor performing a routine water transfer when he was killed. According to its website, Tourmaline Oil is Canada's largest natural gas producer.
'The safety of everyone working on our sites is our highest priority,' notes Tourmaline in a statement. 'We are undertaking a full investigation and working in collaboration with WorkSafeBC throughout this process.'
This incident marks the second death at a Tourmaline facility, following an April 2025 fatality at its Gundy gas plant, roughly 150 kilometers north of Fort St. John.
