World Gold Council Unveils Gold Dealer Assurance Standard to Boost Retail Trust
The retail gold market has long been plagued by a trust problem, where investors have struggled to find reputable dealers. This structural gap has quietly suppressed retail participation for years, with trust concerns representing a measurable drag on physical gold demand. According to World Gold Council research, trust remains one of the most significant barriers preventing prospective investors from entering the physical gold market.
The absence of a credible, globally portable dealer accreditation system has been addressed directly by the launch of the World Gold Council's Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) on August 19, 2026. The standard is a best-practice framework governing the conduct, governance, and operational standards of retail and wholesale gold dealers.
The GDAS covers investment-grade physical gold products sold through retail and wholesale channels, excluding numismatic coins that carry premiums driven by rarity and condition rather than gold content alone. Participating dealers are evaluated across eight distinct operational and governance dimensions, including fairness and integrity, transparency, and responsible gold sourcing.
