World Markets Rise Amid Iran Sanctions, Oil Prices Fall
World markets largely rose on Tuesday as investors digested potentially market-moving events in the coming days. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced fresh sanctions against Iran, warning countries that continue to do business with the Islamic Republic would face retaliation.
The move weighed on oil prices, which fell back after Brent crude dropped 2% to $88.74 per barrel and U.S. benchmark crude oil shed 2.2% to $83.14 per barrel.
In contrast, shares in several major markets were higher, with Germany's DAX gaining 0.5% to 26,240.76 and Tokyo's Nikkei 225 adding 0.5% to 65,856.43.
