The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price has plummeted nearly 7% to around $79.30 per barrel, following a post by US President Donald Trump stating that Middle Eastern nations requested additional time to finalize an agreement.

According to the post on Truth Social, the proposed deal would lead to the immediate, complete, and total reopening of the vital strait and effectively eliminate Iran's nuclear threat.

Shipping data revealed mixed developments in regional waters: while two tankers carrying Saudi oil successfully navigated the Bab el-Mandeb Strait out of the Red Sea over the weekend, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed significantly due to reported vessel strikes.

OPEC+ producers approved a modest increase in production quotas, completing the group's planned restoration of supply cuts introduced in 2023. Strategists at BNY highlighted that the geopolitical backdrop has deteriorated further, with the US and Iran resuming missile exchanges and regional scope expanding.
