WTI Crude Oil Prices Skyrocket Amid US-Iran Tensions
A recent surge in WTI crude oil prices has brought renewed concerns over supply risks in the Strait of Hormuz, following US strikes on Iranian targets and subsequent counterattacks.
The price of WTI opened higher at $85.20 per barrel after closing at approximately $83.40 last Friday, as market attention shifted to energy transport infrastructure and maritime security in the region.
Although the Strait of Hormuz has long been a key waterway for global energy transportation, recent conflicts have caused vessel traffic to decline significantly, adding a risk premium to crude oil prices.
However, data shows that crude and refined product exports from the Persian Gulf have recovered to approximately 15-16 million barrels per day (bpd), equivalent to about two-thirds of pre-conflict levels.
