WTI Crude Prices Plummet 12% Amid Eased Geopolitical Tensions
WTI crude oil prices have dropped significantly in recent sessions, falling from around USD 93-94 per barrel to approximately USD 82 per barrel. This decline represents a nearly 12% drop in just a few trading days.
The immediate cause of this price correction was the United States' decision to pause its military actions against Iran, creating more space for negotiations and reducing the perceived geopolitical risk premium.
However, experts caution that this temporary reprieve does not necessarily signify an end to risks in the Middle East. The suspension of U.S. military action is seen as a temporary pause rather than a conclusive agreement ensuring oil supply and transportation return to normal levels.
Analysts believe that much of the current sell-off reflects the unwinding of defensive long positions and profit-taking following WTI's strong rally. If negotiations fail or military action resumes, oil prices could rapidly increase once again.
