WTI Oil Price Tanks as Trump Announces Ceasefire with Iran

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil price dropped by 7.6% to around $78.60 in the Asian trading session on Monday, following US President Donald Trump's announcement that planned attacks on Iran have been suspended.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran had agreed to surrender its nuclear ambitions and the total reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for nearly 20% of global energy supply.

This development has boosted the odds of a resumption of peace talks with Iran, which in turn diminishes fears of a prolonged energy supply disruption.
