WTI Price Tumbles as Geopolitical Risks Reprice Lower
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil price took a hit on August 25, dropping by 2.03% to $83.082 per barrel. This decline comes after a strong multi-week rally.
The primary driver of this downward pressure is the repricing of geopolitical risk premiums. Market participants had been pricing in significant risks due to tensions in the Middle East, but recent diplomatic progress and increased tanker transits have reduced these concerns.
As a result, institutional traders began to trim their net-long exposure, leading to long liquidation across speculative positioning. The market's inability to sustain momentum above key overhead resistance levels signaled exhaustion among buyers.
