WTI Surges Past $100 as US-Iran Tensions Intensify
Oil prices have surged to new heights due to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude has surpassed $100 a barrel, trading at $100.13 on the New York Mercantile Exchange as of October 10th. This marks a 4.3% increase from the previous session.
Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, have also climbed to $105.38 a barrel on the ICE Futures Exchange in London, up 4.1%. The recent uptick in oil prices is largely attributed to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, which has seen a series of airstrikes and retaliatory attacks.
The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global crude supplies, has been affected by the conflict, with several tankers being damaged or sunk. Concerns about disruptions to oil supplies have contributed to the price increase.
