Yemen Blockade Puts Pressure on Saudi Arabia's Economic Interests
The ongoing Yemeni maritime blockade has put significant pressure on Saudi Arabia's economic and energy interests. Over the past 48 hours, Sanaa's forces have targeted three Saudi oil tankers allegedly violating the blockade, preventing 16 more vessels from transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait since Monday.
According to analysts, prolonged disruptions could place additional logistical and financial pressure on Saudi oil exports due to increased voyage times and costs for transportation and insurance. This comes as reports suggest fires broke out at fuel storage tanks in Jizan following reported strikes, with damage also reported in Yanbu.
The targeting of fuel storage facilities rather than refining units may signal the capability to expand future attacks if hostilities continue. The confrontation is increasingly focused on economic and energy infrastructure, with shipping, logistics, and oil facilities emerging as central elements of the conflict.
