Yemen Conflict Intensifies as Houthis Capture Key Areas

The conflict in Yemen has intensified as government forces face off against Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The Houthis have captured key areas, including the port city of Mokha and an island on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The capture of these strategic locations puts pressure on global oil supplies and prices, potentially giving Iran leverage in its war with the United States. More than 80,000 people in Yemen have been displaced by the fighting since September, according to UN estimates.

Houthi military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed that the group has used drones and missiles to target Saudi Arabia, including a military base near the Yemeni border.
