Yemen on Brink of Renewed War as Ceasefire Collapses and Houthi Forces Seize Strategic Waterway

A fragile ceasefire between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces in Yemen has broken down, threatening to plunge the country back into full-scale war.

The Houthis, a Shia rebel group also known as Ansarallah, have seized control of Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline, including the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait through which most of Saudi Arabia's oil exports pass.

A spokesperson for the Houthi forces claims they launched a drone and missile strike on a military base in southern Saudi Arabia earlier today.

Saudi-led airstrikes have repeatedly targeted Yemen in recent days as part of an effort to stall Houthi advances, leading to the displacement of 86,000 people according to UN estimates.
