Yemen's armed forces have tightened their naval blockade on Saudi oil tankers, forcing eight vessels to change course towards the Strait of Good Hope. This move is in line with the 'siege for siege' equation, which aims to retaliate against Riyadh's blockade on Yemen.
The 'siege for siege' campaign was initiated by Sana'a in response to Saudi airstrikes targeting the port city of al-Hudaydah, a vital lifeline for the country. Brigadier Yahya Saree, the servicemen's spokesman, stated that the naval blockade is part of this equation and has resulted in the eight oil tankers being forced to change course.
The Strait of Good Hope is a key shipping lane, but it also poses challenges due to harsh weather conditions. The move is seen as an escalation in the conflict between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, with both sides vying for control.
