Yemeni Forces Strike Eighth Saudi Oil Tanker in Red Sea Blockade
The Yemeni Armed Forces have targeted a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea, according to a statement from Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the forces. The tanker, named Wafa, was hit with several ballistic missiles in the northern Red Sea near the Yanbu area.
This is not an isolated incident; since July 22, when the naval blockade began, eight Saudi tankers have been targeted by the Yemeni Armed Forces, and 29 ships have been forced to turn back. The forces aim to close all maritime routes to Saudi Arabia in response to its blockade of Yemen.
The operation is part of a larger strategy to counter the effects of the naval blockade imposed on Yemen since July 22. Yahya Saree stated that this decision was made to establish an equation of 'blockade in response to blockade.'
