Zelenskyy Offers Compromise on Grain Exports Amid Global Food Price Surge

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is prepared to seek compromises on grain exports and energy imports, citing the global implications of the ongoing conflict.

The rising cost of food globally has put pressure on both Kyiv and Moscow to find a solution, with Black Sea routes becoming increasingly restricted. Grain exports from Ukraine have been severely impacted, with only 20% of its potential volume being exported in August, according to Taras Vysotskyi, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Zelenskyy emphasized that concessions must be mutual and called on Russia to take reciprocal steps, as compromises cannot be expected from Ukraine alone. The situation has resulted in global wheat prices reaching nearly a three-year high, with the September contract for milling wheat on the Euronext exchange costing €226.75 per tonne.
