Zelenskyy Warns Global Food Crisis Looming Over Black Sea Blockade
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia's blockade of the Black Sea poses a significant threat to global food security, as grain exports from Ukraine are severely restricted. In a recent conversation with American journalist Fareed Zakaria at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference in 2026, Zelenskyy emphasized that the war is no longer just an issue for Ukraine, but also a burden on Russia's economy and the global community.
According to Zelenskyy, the grain corridor has been almost entirely blocked from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. He pointed out that the disruption will not only affect Ukraine's agricultural exports, which would suffer from high costs, complicated sales infrastructure, and logistics issues, but also have far-reaching consequences for other countries.
Zelenskyy drew a comparison to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for oil trade, saying that a similar blockage of grain exports could be just as devastating. He warned that many nations will struggle to access food, even if they have money to buy it.
