$1 Billion in Crypto Losses: Ethereum and Solana Take the Biggest Hits
Blockaid has released its security report for the first half of 2026, revealing that the cryptocurrency industry has suffered losses exceeding $1 billion. The report highlights 212 security events, setting a new record for the highest number of hacking incidents in a single six-month period.
The biggest single attack came from KelpDAO, resulting in losses of $292 million. Ethereum and Solana were the two networks that suffered the most significant losses, with amounts totaling approximately $3.32 billion and $3.26 billion respectively.
Most of the attacks on Ethereum were due to code vulnerabilities targeting high-value applications, including incidents involving Humanity Protocol and StablR key exposure events. On the other hand, 98% of Solana's losses originated from key leakage, primarily affecting Drift Protocol and Step Finance. Blockaid associates these Solana-related incidents with a hacker group tied to North Korea.
High-risk vulnerabilities were confirmed at a rate three times higher than in all of 2025, indicating a significant rise in security threats during this period.
