$10 Billion Deal Sees Anthropic Secure AI Computing Power from Volta
AI computing power has become an urgent resource for companies like Anthropic. To secure capacity, they've signed a massive $10 billion deal with Volta Infra Holdings, a cloud startup backed by Nvidia. The six-year agreement will see Volta and its partner Bitdeer deliver 133 megawatts of power from a site in Norway.
The facility will run on Nvidia's latest Vera Rubin processors. While the deal's details are private, people close to the discussion confirm that Anthropic is indeed the buyer. This isn't Anthropic's first infrastructure bet, they've also partnered with Elon Musk's SpaceX and chipmaker AMD.
Anthropic has raised $65 billion from investors this year and is considering a U.S. stock market debut. As AI adoption widens, companies are turning to cloud startups and bitcoin miners for power and chips. Volta itself has recently secured $300 million in funding at a valuation of $2.4 billion.
OpenAI's Sam Altman predicts that spending on AI infrastructure will reach trillions. Anthropic and OpenAI are pursuing massive projects, including a data center in Georgia valued at over $30 billion. However, critics warn about the potential for circular financing if demand falls short.
