10% Survival Rate for New CEX Tokens Revealed by CoinGecko Report
A new report from CoinGecko reveals that only about 10% of newly listed tokens on major centralized exchanges (CEXs) survive their first year, according to data analyzed across the top 12 CEXs. The study found that nearly 90% of these tokens fall below their debut price within 12 months.
In the first 30 days of trading, about 32% of new listings show positive price action. However, this number drops sharply after 60 days, with only 25% remaining above water. By the one-year mark, fewer than 10% of tokens still trade above their initial listing price on most platforms.
The report highlights some interesting trends and outliers among the CEXs surveyed. Upbit posted strong short-term results, with 67% of its new listings finishing in the green after 30 days. Binance (BNB) and OKX followed at 50%. However, Upbit's early advantage fades sharply, all of its newly listed tokens drop below their debut price by the 300-day mark.
Coinbase stood out as the only exchange where listed tokens saw a rebound after six months. The report also notes that stablecoins Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) dominate spot trading, accounting for 66.6% of all trading pairs and 97.7% of stablecoin-denominated pairs across the surveyed exchanges.
