$100 Trillion M2 Mark Highlights Bitcoin's Scarcity Value
The global M2 money supply has reached $100 trillion for the first time, marking a significant milestone in macroeconomic history. This expansion of liquidity is largely due to central banks injecting massive amounts into the economy in response to economic stimulus needs and pandemic-related policies.
Despite this surge in liquidity, Bitcoin's price trend over the past 12 months has not kept pace with the growth of fiat currency supply. Simon Jerovich, CEO of Metaplanet, points out that this decoupling between price and liquidity is due to the fundamental difference between fiat currency and digital currencies like Bitcoin.
BTC's algorithmic design strictly limits its total supply at 21 million coins, making it a scarce asset in an environment where fiat supply can be printed without limit. This scarcity has become more attractive to investors seeking long-term store-of-value functions, particularly as concerns intensify regarding inflation and currency devaluation risks triggered by continuous money printing.
Institutional investors like Michael Saylor's $Strategy (MSTR.US)$ have accumulated over 200,000 BTC, reinforcing their confidence in the value derived from algorithmic scarcity. While short-term prices may be influenced by various market factors, the underlying logic of Bitcoin's supply cap remains unchanged as a critical barrier against systemic risks.
