$10,000 Crypto Split vs S&P 500: Which Is Worth More by 2030?
A recent study compared the performance of a $10,000 investment in Bitcoin and XRP to one in the S&P 500 index from August 2021 to January 2026. At first, the split between the two cryptocurrencies was worth more than the index, with a total value of around $24,000 against $16,600 for the S&P 500. However, just seven months later, the crypto investment had declined, and the index took the lead.
Looking ahead to 2030, Goldman Sachs forecasts that the S&P 500 will return only 6.5% annually, growing a $10,000 investment to around $13,200. In contrast, if Bitcoin and XRP reach their 2025 highs of $126,000 and $3.65 by 2030, the same split would be worth approximately $26,600, about 70% more than the index's best forecast.
The study also notes that the two sides carry different risks. The S&P 500 earns its money from company profits and dividends, regardless of what happens in the crypto market. In contrast, the value of a Bitcoin and XRP split is highly dependent on whether another cycle comes, which could either significantly boost or severely harm the investment's value.
