$10.9B: South Korea's Crypto Activity Ranks 11th Globally

Share

South Korea's on-chain crypto activity has reached $10.9 billion in 2023, placing the country 11th globally according to a recent Chainalysis report.

The report analyzed data from six major blockchains and found that South Korea's total potentially taxable activity comprised $2.0 billion in income, $3.2 billion in trading gains, and $5.6 billion in payments.

This diverse nature of crypto usage in the country reflects its significant but relatively smaller role in the global crypto economy compared to major players like the United States, Germany, and China.

The findings come amid ongoing debates in South Korea over the implementation of its crypto tax, which has been delayed multiple times. The Chainalysis report provides a data-driven foundation for these discussions, offering a clearer picture of the potential tax base and administrative challenges involved.
